Introducing Dr. Lorraine Harrington

We would like to introduce the renowned, award-winning, Dr Lorraine Harrington MBChB Bsc (Hons) Immunology, FRCA, FFPMRCA, MRCP, Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, who is a leading Pain Consultant at the London Pain Clinic. Her highly impressive, extensive educational and work record, encompasses a number of comprehensive special medical interests. These include, but are not limited to: vulvodynia, vulvar pain, female pelvic pain, chronic pelvic pain, and endometriosis.

Background

In the early 2020s, after having graduated from the world-class University of Edinburgh, with both a BSc (Hons) in Immunology, and a MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), Dr
Harrington continued her medical education pathway, and gained post-graduate qualifications at the Royal College of Physicians (London), The Royal College of Anaesthetists, and the Resuscitation Council UK. This resulted in her attaining both her FRCA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) Final, and a FFPMRCA (Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) with distinction. In addition to this, Dr Harrington successfully completed a seven year training program. This incorporated the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ curriculum for anaesthesia training, and a Pain Fellowship at NHS Lothian, Scotland.

Medical Teaching Expertise

Dr Harrington is also certified in the Leadership and Management Program. Furthermore, she has achieved formal medical teaching qualifications. These accomplishments encompass a wealth of teaching expertise involving a spectrum of undergraduate and post-graduate medics; as well as nursing staff and other multi-disciplinary specialists. In addition to this, Dr Harrington enjoys engaging in regular teaching sessions with junior anaesthetics. Moreover, she is also certified in the Generic Resuscitation Instructor Course, as well as the Level 1 Clinical Educator Program.

Professional Appointments

Dr Harrington’s impressive professional appointments include serving as the Clinical Lead Pain Doctor for NHS Lothian; and covering The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and surrounding hospitals. Moreover, Dr Harrington manages, and is the Clinical Lead Pain Doctor for the renowned ‘Excellence in Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Care and Treatment (EXPPECT) Clinic, – one of a limited number of specialist pelvic pain clinics based within the UK. In addition to this, Dr Harrington has been instrumental in establishing an opioid support and review clinic, and was elected as the ACTA secretary during the time of her training.

Research, Publications & Presentations

Famed for directing a broad range of important research papers, publications and presentations, on her special medical interests, Dr Harrington has been appointed as a Principle Investigator of several international multi-centre drug trials. Furthermore, she was invited to guest edit the Chronic Pain chapter within the renowned ‘Smith & Aitkenhead Textbook of Anaesthesia’- and has been a special expert guest speaker at countless international pain and gynaecology conferences.

Prizes & Awards

Dr Harrington has been honoured with the Royal College of Anaesthetists FFPMRCA (Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) Distinction Award; the Nick Gordon Medal Runner Up Award for her ‘I.V Fluid Prescription Audit’; and a Poster Presentation at GAT (which involved the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland), for her ‘I.V Fluid Prescription Audit’. In addition to this, she is also in receipt of two hihgly sought after distinctions from Edinburgh University.
